What is dry needling?

Dry needling is a technique used to relieve pain and tension in muscles. It involves using a small, sterile needle to stimulate trigger points, which are small knots of muscle tissue that can cause pain and referred pain in other parts of the body. When a needle is inserted into a trigger point, it causes a twitch in the muscle fiber. This twitch helps to release the tension in the muscle and reduce pain.

How often do I need treatment?

The frequency of treatment will vary depending on your individual needs. Most people need 1- 3 sessions duration 1 time per week.

What can I expect during treatment?

During treatment, the practitioner inserts the needles into the trigger points. You may feel a slight pinch or tingling sensation when the needle is inserted. The needle is placed at the trigger point, you may feel dull or refer pain and some have muscle twitching.

Who is it right for?

Trigger point dry needling may be a good option for you if you have chronic muscle pain or muscle tension. It is important to talk to your doctor before starting treatment to make sure it is right for you.

What should I do after treatment?

  • Avoid heavy muscle use for 1-2 days
  • Stretch regularly
  • Correct improper postures

After treatment, you may experience some soreness or bruising. You can apply ice to the area to help reduce inflammation. You should also avoid strenuous activity for 24 – 48 hours.
